Government Student Grants – Want to know more?

Students being young often don't have the funding behind them to enter straight into full time study. Sometimes studying plus working to fund the study proves too difficult and students which tends to lead to postponing or the cancellation of receiving their education all together. This is helped to be prevented by government grants and funding options. These options enable students to attend their desired studies due to the financial support. Many students benefit from these government schemes as it enables students to devote more precious time to their chosen field of study with much of the hassle of finance taken care of.

Research Grants

Obtaining research funding is somewhat more difficult than receiving benefit funding as there is very limited amount put aside each year for scientific research projects, be them social science or technological research. This makes project entrepreneurs compete for the funding grant and a difficult process of presentations and miles of paper work is expedited to be inclusive. Research grants can be accomplished through:

  • Government,
  • Corporations, and
  • Not for profit organisations/ foundations.

In developed countries the research funding is generally between %1 - %3 of the grouse domestic product with the one exception of Sweden which generally devotes %4 of its GDP to research and development grants. This means there is large amounts available each year however this amount is very limited as projects usually are very expensive to carry out and require large portions of the total pool. This drastically limits the amount of projects funded each year and makes competition high.

Research Grants Eligibility.

Research grants are usually given for topics which have beneficial outcomes for the wider group of society. Usually scholars within research institutions are eligible to apply for a government grant research fund. Ares of research focusing on the development of cultural, political, economical, and social areas of interest are usually favoured among candidates. Research proposals which have beneficial outcomes are especially favoured.

Research grants in general are given out for terms which do not exceed two years; however there are exceptions with research projects which have especially long time frames. However it is normal for such projects to be done on a tier basis where milestones are met and successful projects will have the priority in funding and continuing their research, providing results are adequate.
